Horror legend Bruce Campbell revealed that he’s battling incurable cancer on Monday.

The 67-year-old actor, best known for playing Ash Williams in the Evil Dead horror franchise, shared the health update with fans via a post on X.

Campbell said he’s fighting a form of cancer that’s not ‘curable’ as he announced the cancellation of his appearances at fan conventions this year so that he can focus on treatment.

‘Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an “opportunity,” so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those,’ he wrote in a letter to fans.

‘It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too,’ he added.

‘The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.’

‘My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall,’ Campbell went on.

‘There are several cons this year that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.’

‘That’s about it. I’m not trying [to] enlist sympathy – or advice – I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).’

Towards the end of his post Campbell reassured his fans.

‘Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b***h and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.’

‘As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!’

Campbell did not specify the details of his diagnosis.

Fans rallied around the actor with supportive comments.

Campbell started acting in low-budget and student films in the late 1970s.

He is best known for his role as the chainsaw-wielding hero Ash Williams in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead (1981) horror series.

He reprised his role as Ash in Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1992), cementing his status as a horror icon.

His partnership with Raimi has defined much of his career as he made a cameo in all three of Raimi’s Spider-Man films.

Campbell most recently served as the executive producer on Evil Dead Burn, the sixth installment in the Evil Dead film series, which will be due out later this year.

He’s also had recurring roles in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

His latest project, Ernie & Emma, which he wrote, directed, and stars in, follows widowed pear salesman Ernie Tyler (Campbell) as he journeys to scatter his wife’s ashes at the places she chose.
