James Corden and Ruth Jones have revealed a radically different plotline for Gavin And Stacey that saw Gavin have an affair.
The pair, who starred as Smithy and Nessa, told how they had thought about a cheating storyline that would’ve seen Gavin and Stacey’s relationship in tatters.
Discussing the plots that never made it to air, James said: ‘We had a sort of weird idea for the 2019 special, didn’t we?’
‘Oh, about Gavin having an affair,’ Ruth replied, according to The Sun.
The actress added they ultimately decided against the affair storlyine because they felt it ‘wasn’t true’ to the show.
Gavin and Stacey originally ran from 2007 to 2010 and it later returned for two Christmas specials in 2019 and 2024.

The 2024 special – the show’s last ever episode – was watched by 20 million people and James and Ruth originally considered making it into a film.
‘We wanted to do something different from what we’d done before,’ Ruth explained.
However, they decided to keep it on the small screen, feeling the characters they created belonged in people’s living rooms, rather than on in the cinema.
In a special documentary following the emotional episode, James revealed why Gavin And Stacey could not continue.
He explained: ‘Probably from the first Christmas special that we did, when Dave proposes and Smithy says, “Don’t marry him”, from that minute on it felt like they had to end together.’
‘And that’s what he says in this last scene, “I know it’s messy and not perfect, but that’s because we’re messy and not perfect”.’
James and Ruth have reportedly signed a brand new seven-figure deal for a Gavin And Stacey follow-up.

They have signed a deal that will take the new project away from the BBC and instead onto streaming platform AppleTV+.
A source close to the production revealed that 10 episodes are set to be filmed with an all British cast, with Corden and Jones also starring.
Shooting will begin next year, with the episodes not set to land until 2027.
However, the new show will not feature the iconic characters fans fell in love with on Gavin And Stacey.
The insider told The Sun: ‘In what has unquestionably been a pretty miserable year for Brits, there is finally something to cheer — a new James and Ruth co-productio’As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny.
The source added that casting has not yet begun, but the show will focus on a new format away from Gavin And Stacey.
Daily Mail approached representatives for James and Ruth for comment at the time.
