Chloe Lattanzi revealed the ‘promise’ she made to her late mother, Olivia Newton-John, as she attended the annual Walk and Run for Wellness fundraiser in Melbourne on Sunday.

The 39-year-old actress told the crowd she is currently writing new music as a tribute to her legendary songstress mother, who died of breast cancer in 2022.

‘I’m doing a lot of songwriting. That was the way her and I connected, through music. I wanted to make a promise,’ Chloe addressed the audience as she stood with her cousin, Tottie Goldsmith.

‘The most important thing to a mother is that their child is happy and thriving, showing their talent and shining.’

Chloe added she had written a song about overcoming adversity that drew on her own personal experiences.

‘My song, Phoenix, is about going through a difficult time. You can turn those difficult times into a diamond,’ she said.

‘You can become a Phoenix that rises through the ashes. There’s a lot of people here who faced death, and you have come back like a Phoenix,’ she said.

‘This was my promise to my mother, that I would continue her legacy. I would continue to love myself and I would continue to rise as high as I can.’

Olivia Newton-John died in August 2022 following a 20-year breast cancer battle.

Chloe is Olivia’s only child, born in 1986 from her first marriage to actor Matt Lattanzi.

The Grease star died at age 73 at her home in Santa Ynez, California, on August 8, 2022, following a decades-long battle with cancer.

She fought several brave fights against the disease after first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.

At one point, the cancer was successfully treated and went into remission, but it later returned in both 2013 and 2017.

Olivia’s death resulted in an outpouring of public grief and heartfelt tributes from those close to her, including Grease co-star John Travolta and Victorian premier Dan Andrews, who offered a state funeral in her honour.

In September 2022, before travelling to Australia, Chloe appeared on Sunrise to reflect on her tragic loss.

‘I’m sorry, it’s still raw for me. People I don’t even know have lifted me up and I have been able to engage with people going through cancer,’ she began.

‘It’s an honour to continue the Walk for Wellness. There isn’t a greater purpose in life than to give to others.

‘When I went through my mental illness I focused on connecting with people who were going through similar pain.’

Chloe said that even when Olivia was struggling with her own breast cancer, she still took the time to help other cancer patients and let them know they were not alone.
