CSI: Miami alum David Caruso resurfaced in Sherman Oaks, California on Monday – 13 years after quitting Hollywood.
It was a rare sighting of the 70-year-old retired actor, whose disheveled appearance was a far cry from the slim, sleek look he rocked as police Lieutenant Horatio Caine in the CSI spin-off, which aired for 10 seasons on CBS spanning 2002-2012.
Caruso had on a gray CBGB T-shirt and a beige fedora over his natural red locks as he walked around his parked SUV.
He completed his casual look with gray sweatpants, which accidentally slipped down during his outing.
The sighting comes just weeks after a source speculated to Radar Online as to why the once high-profile star has shied away from the spotlight over the last decade.
‘David still gets invited to all sorts of Hollywood things, but he turns everything down,’ the insider claimed. ‘A lot of people think it’s because he doesn’t want to deal with judgment about his weight.

The source claimed that Caruso has ‘completely let his health go.’

After retiring from show business in 2012, the Golden Globe winner reinvented himself as an art dealer and opened Caruso Art in Westlake Village, California but it permanently closed last year.
Back in 2009-2011, Caruso was earning $375,000/per episode to portray Caine in CSI: Miami.
But it was abruptly cancelled due to low ratings and an expanding budget.
‘I was sad because we did not get a chance to say goodbye to the fans or to each other,’ his former castmate Eva LaRue, who played Detective Natalia Boa Vista, told Digital Spy in 2012.
‘I think we all feel like the character development would have been important to us actors but the nature of the show did not allow for it.

‘There was not enough time because of the elaborate procedural scenes,’ she said.
The Hill Street Blues alum always regretted quitting his leading role as Detective John Kelly in ABC crime drama NYPD Blue in 1994 after only one season due to his so-called diva demands for a $100,000/per episode salary and other amenities.
‘I had nine years of unemployment to clarify that,’ Caruso told CNN in 2002. ‘A lot was happening in those days, very quickly. Television, as you know, can kind of jettison you into a whole new world.
‘So too much was happening. Now as a different time, and I’m armed with different information.’
NYPD Blue showrunner Steven Bochco blasted the ‘cancerous malcontent’ in his 2016 memoir, Truth Is a Total Defense, claiming he could be ‘volatile, moody or sullen’ to cast and crew ‘depending on the day.’
Caruso was promptly replaced by Jimmy Smits, who made his debut as Senior Detective Bobby Simone in season two of the popular police procedural.
