All election campaigning activities of the candidates contesting for the 2024 Presidential Election ended at midnight yesterday (18).

All election campaigning activities of Presidential Candidates ended and the silence period came into effect from midnight yesterday and will remain enforced until Saturday (21), the day that the Presidential Election will be held, the Election Commission announced.

During the silence period, any type of campaigning is strictly prohibited and the Police has been authorised to arrest any party who violates the election rules and regulations enforced by the law.

As such, the final campaign rallies of several main Presidential candidates were held yesterday (18) in Colombo and outstation areas.

The final election rallies of President Ranil Wickremesinghe contesting as an independent candidate were held at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara, Samanala Stadium Galle, Public Stadium Kalutara, Homagama town and Kosgas Junction in Colombo yesterday.

The last election campaign rally of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Presidential candidate and Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa was held in front of the Tower Hall Theatre in Panchikawatta yesterday.The final election rallies of the National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential candidate MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake were held at the Ananda Samarakoon open-air theatre in Nugegoda, Kalutara and Gampaha yesterday.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate MP Namal Rajapaksa held his final election rally at the Somaweera Chandrasiri Stadium in Piliyandala yesterday.Presidential candidate of the Sarvajana Balaya Alliance Dilith Jayaweera held his final election campaign rally at the Kottawa Bus Stand yesterday.

Special security for the final election campaign rallies of Presidential candidates held yesterday was provided by the Police and security forces along with special traffic plans by the Police at locations where election rallies were held.
