For $125, Nobu is allowing us mere mortals to feast like a celebrity at the Golden Globes

The famed Japanese restaurant and it’s co-founder, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, are catering this year’s awards show in Los Angeles and they’re offering customers a chance to try out the food from the comfort of their own homes.

A special takeout package has been made available through Uber Eats and Door Dash at select Nobu restaurants.

But, considering the price tag, is it worth the splurge?

The Daily Mail has taste-tested the takeout box so you don’t have to…

The meal consists of yellowtail jalapeño, a caviar cup, a lobster salad with spicy lemon dressing, tai Matsuhisa nigiri, salmon nigiri, tuna nigiri, and miso black cod served inside a bento-style box.

Celebrities dining in the Beverly Hilton hotel will also wash back the food with Champagne (not included in takeout).

Visually, both the food and packaging were a feast for the eyes.

The food is placed in a chic black ‘Nobu’ box, with a gilt interior and dividers to keep the dishes separated.

The food itself certainly popped as well. The caviar cup comes adorned with luxurious gold flakes, the nigiri looks plump and juicy, while the miso black cod appears quite mouth-watering.

But what about the actual taste?

I came hungry and was ready to devour what I expected to be quite the hearty meal (considering the price tag) – and, frankly, left disappointed.

The first dish I was excited to try was the caviar cup, a fitting addition to a glamorous awards show.

A dashing of gold flakes tops off the caviar, and the fish eggs are spread over a small cup of rice. And yes, it’s tasty – but not as decadent as I had wanted.

It’s saltier than expected, though I won’t hold it against Nobu as I’m aware this particular delicacy isn’t for everyone.

The rice beneath the caviar, however, was delightful, and certainly improved by the extra punch of saltiness from the caviar.

The yellowtail jalapeno, meanwhile, offered a welcome zesty kick to the plate – the fish was tender while the jalapeno providing an energizing and contrasting crunch.

Next came my favorite mouthful: the miso black cod, a scrumptious slice of fish that I only wish I’d had more of.

My least favorite mouthful: the lobster. While tender, it was terribly bland.

The sauces that accompanying the food are both worthy of a hat tip. The spicy lemon dressing and yuzu jalepeno drizzle are rich and certainly A-list in flavor.

But I kept coming back to the small size.

Is this amount of food really worth $125? Personally, I think not.

Perhaps I would have been more satisfied by the experience had I eaten the meal immediately after it was prepared, as tonight’s celebrities will.

Mine had been sitting out for some time due to traffic – an important factor to consider when it comes to takeout.

Not only that, but I definitely didn’t feel like a Hollywood star as I tucked in.

My colleague, the Daily Mail’s supervising producer Rachel Choffin, felt similarly.

Like me, Choffin felt the sauce greatly enhanced the food.

‘The dressing is really good, but that’s what makes it,’ she said. ‘It’s hard with sushi and lobster, you’re not cooking it with a lot of sauce in general, so that’s how it makes it shine. The sauce will always make seafood shine. But that sauce is really good.’

The yellowtail jalapeno was one of her standouts: ‘That jalapeno is fresh, it hit my tongue with a flavor explosion. The sauce is super citrusy, and I’m a citrus girl, so I love it.’

As was the cod: ‘It’s really good, it has been sitting for quite a while, so I don’t feel like I can properly judge it, but I would try it again for sure.’

And the caviar: ‘This is definitely saltier than the caviar I had on New Year’s, but I like it, and it works really well with the rice,’ she said. ‘It might even lean too salty because the rice is seasoned, but I would try it again.’

But the nigiri came as a disappointment.

‘The salmon nigiri is exactly what I would expect,’ she said. ‘Nothing outstanding about it. But that’s what you expect when you get nigiri – it’s really highlighting the fish, it’s good quality fish, that’s just what it is.’

She had similar feedback for the tuna nigiri: ‘Again, nigiri’s nigiri. Still super tasty but nothing stands out about it.’

And like me, she didn’t feel it all justified the hefty price tag.

‘No,’ she said. ‘Plus a delivery fee on top of that? Definitely not. I think your best bet is ordering sushi from your local spot and watching the Golden Globes.’

2026 marks the third year in a row that Nobu has provided dinner for the Golden Globes.

This year, A-listers will wash down the food Moet & Chandon’s Impérial Brut and Rosé Impérial Champagnes, along with trendy spring water Saratoga.

Celebrities will also be treated to a dessert featuring white chocolate mousse, pistachio sponge and ceremonial matcha cake topped off with a Golden Nobu coin.

Celebrity chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa, who has been dubbed the ‘official chef of the Golden Globes’, was present to showcase the dinner at the Golden Globes Red Carpet rollout at the Beverly Hilton last week.
