With the reboot of Big Brother Australia finally hitting screens, it seems that one contestant is already rubbing viewers up the wrong way.

Following her small screen debut on Sunday, fans of the show were left less than impressed by housemate hopeful Holly Young.

As she stepped onto the stage to be introduced to the nation by host Mel Tracina, Holly was quick to rattle off the designer labels she was wearing for her big moment.

‘Is that pleather?’ Mel asked the reality show newcomer.

‘This is actually a custom piece by Juliana Lilly, a Sydney designer – she’s incredible,’ Holly replied.

Mel offered a not-so-subtle swipe at Holly with: ‘I’m so sorry I was just getting to the point of the fact that it’s really good for the rain, but we can do a plug.’

'So this fake is a friend of the other fake that was on MAFS! Then dated a shonky from that other s*** real estate show,' he wrote. 'It's all fake and scripted.'

One fan took to X to call out the reality star for her haughty entrance into the Big Brother house.

‘Not Holly responding as if she was this famous influencer attending a red carpet and giving credits to the designer of her clothing,’ they wrote.

While Holly’s influencer fame might be relative, she does boast an impressive 103,000 followers on her now-private Instagram account.

A fact not lost on one viewer, who appeared disappointed that Channel Ten would choose someone with more than 100,000 followers on social media.

The viewer shared a screenshot of her page with the caption: ‘It was going so well… At least they seem relatively normal so far.’

However, Holly is not the only contestant coming into the house with impressive follower numbers.

Contestant Vinnie Brigante boasts a formidable 155,000 followers on TikTok and was even invited on stage to sing with country star Zach Bryan on his 2023 Australian tour.

He also appeared on Deal Or No Deal back in April 2024.

Meanwhile, former Married At First Sight star Nassar Sultan did not mince his words in his assessment of Holly, labelling her a ‘fake.’

Nassar took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo that showed Holly palling around with 2025 MAFS star Carina Mirabile.

He also pointed to Holly’s previous relationship with Luxe Listings star Gavin Rubinstein, claiming that her ‘fake influencer’ status should disqualify Holly from the reality series.

‘So this fake is a friend of the other fake that was on MAFS! Then dated a shonky from that other s*** real estate show,’ he wrote.

‘It’s all fake and scripted.’

Nassar continued: ‘Shame and lies on #bigbrotherau. I thought no fake influencers on the show and you wanted normal people.’

It comes after viewers flooded social media following the premiere to praise the ‘authentic’ and ‘refreshing’ new cast, calling it a return to the show’s original roots.

‘To give the show credit, I like the fact that viewers are given the platform to watch the cast authentically,’ one fan wrote.

‘Unlike every other reality show currently on air that manufactures villains and controversy. This makes me excited.’

Another viewer added: ‘Mel was fantastic, the cast lacks a little diversity but seem like a good, NORMAL bunch. The look and feel of the whole show is Big Brother. They delivered on everything they promised.’

There were also reports of technical hiccups, with viewers in New South Wales complaining about freezing and delays on the live feed via 10Play.

Despite minor teething issues, the overall consensus online is that Big Brother Australia has recaptured the charm and simplicity that made it a national phenomenon two decades ago.

Big Brother Australia continues on Channel 10 and 10Play.
