The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has launched a full-scale investigation into an attack on Thusitha Halloluwa, Director General of Public Relations to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, following a shooting incident in Narahenpita on Saturday night.

The probe is conducted by multiple CCD teams under the supervision of its Director Indika Lokuhhetti and Western Province Senior DIG Sanjeewa Dharmarathna.

Halloluwa has told police that he and his counsel Attorney-at-Law Dinesh Dodangoda were travelling along Dabare Mawatha around 8:45 pm when two unidentified men on a motorcycle intercepted their vehicle, fired at the tyres, smashed the windows, and assaulted the pair before fleeing with a confidential file in Halloluwa’s possession.

Both Halloluwa and Dodangoda sustained minor injuries and are being treated at a private hospital.

The attack comes amid an ongoing CID inquiry into Halloluwa, who recently alleged that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had invested Rs. 400 million in a Greek shipping firm. That claim prompted a formal complaint from a group of lawyers, leading to a seven-hour CID interrogation of Halloluwa.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and examining phone records to identify the assailants. A 9mm pistol is believed to have been used in the shooting.
