Presenter Kumail Nanjian makes inappropriate Holocaust joke before awarding The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva tie for Best Live Action Short Film
During the award presentation for Best Live Action Short Film, comedian Kumail Nanjian cracked an offensive joke by swapping Schindler’s List for ‘Schindler Post It,’ much to the dismay of the Oscars audience and viewers at home.
‘Can’t say that Schindler’s List joke was uh in any good taste,’ one person wrote on X.
‘At the #Oscars, they just made an offensive joke by swapping Schindler’s List for #SchindlerPostIt, and the translator didn’t translate it—she caught on instantly and just went silent during that part. Did you notice it,’ wrote another.
The tie drew visible surprise as the film camps went up to the stage one at a time to collect their awards. There have only been six ties in Oscar history before tonight’s double-win.
The last time was in 2013 when Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty tied for best sound editing.
