News Room : Is this the interview that caused Jackie O to quit? Kyle Sandilands calls his co-host ‘crazy’ in wild resurfaced sit-down with Karl Stefanovic just weeks before she left her $100m radio job

Industry insiders have taken a magnifying glass to the relationship between Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and her co-star of 27 years, Kyle Sandilands, since she walked out on her $100 million contract with KIIS FM this week.

Speculation has run rife about why she threw in the towel following the February 20 argument, which many believed was tame compared to some of their previous on-air rows.

But now a resurfaced interview between Sandilands, 54, and Today host Karl Stefanovic may have revealed the foundational cracks that were starting to appear in his personal friendship with Henderson, 51, in recent years.

Sandilands appeared on Stefanovic’s new podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show, in early February – just weeks before his on-air bust-up with Henderson – and it seemed increasingly clear the pair were already drifting apart

The shock jock said at the top of the interview that he ‘respects’ what Henderson has to say, ‘even if I disagree’ with it, but went on to contradict himself by dismissing her interest in tarot cards and star signs as ‘nonsense’ and ‘weird behaviour’.

He threw further salt on the wound by saying his co-star and close friend was a ‘chameleon’ who changed her personality every few years, saying she’s had ’30 to 60′ personalities in the two decades they have worked together.

A resurfaced interview between Kyle Sandilands, 54, and Today host Karl Stefanovic, 51, may have revealed the foundational cracks that were starting to appear in his personal friendship with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, 51, in recent years

‘As much as I love her, that is one crazy woman,’ he joked.

‘Every six weeks, she has a completely different personality. Do you know what I’m saying?’

But the distance between them really began to show when Stefanovic, 51, began asking Sandilands questions that Henderson herself had written for him.

Sandilands appeared to become progressively more frustrated with what she had to say, with Henderson seemingly asking her long-time colleague to do some introspection and grow a little.

The first question Henderson sent in for Sandilands was to ask if he really ‘didn’t believe in therapy’ or if he was just scared of what he might uncover about himself if he spoke to a professional.

Predictably, Sandilands dismissed the question, saying Henderson ‘wants to fill up every gap in her body with knowledge, but most of it is bulls***’.

He added that he wasn’t interested in understanding himself better or sharing ‘sad stories’ about his life with a stranger.

‘How many people in your life do you think feel safe enough to tell you the truth?’ Stefanovic then asked on Henderson’s behalf. ‘Versus the people who tell you what you want to hear or are too afraid to challenge you?’

Sandilands bristled at the question, insisting he relied on people like his wife, Tegan Kynaston, and his manager, Bruno Bouchet, for honest feedback, before flipping it back on Henderson and accusing her of being the one surrounded by ‘yes men’.

Sandilands appeared on Stefanovic’s new podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show , in early February – just weeks before his on-air bust-up with Henderson – and it seemed clear the pair were already drifting apart

‘Jackie has the wrong impression here. She thinks that I’m surrounded by yes men, that that’s not the case at all,’ he said.

‘If you really were to look from a distance, it’s Jackie who’s surrounded by the a*** lickers and the yes men!’

Then, in a very telling move, Henderson wrote to Sandilands: ‘Is there someone you owe an apology to that you know you’ll probably never give?’

Annoyed, Sandilands said he didn’t understand why Henderson was so interested in digging deep into his inner emotional state, adding that people ‘either like me, or you don’t’.

‘If I’ve sprayed you, it’s for a reason,’ he added, an apparent foreshadowing to the on-air fight he would get into with Henderson just a few weeks later.

The final question appeared to be the nail in the coffin, as Henderson – through Stefanovic – asked Sandilands to imagine what kind of person he would be now if he didn’t have his famous radio show and his wealthy lifestyle.

‘If you stripped away the fame, the money, the show, who are you? Do you even know?’ she asked.

Sandilands completely dismissed Henderson’s line of questioning – and her apparent need to help him self-reflect – calling his co-star a ‘loon’.

There is no telling for sure if the interview itself is what caused Henderson to leave the popular radio show she built with Sandilands, but it cast a harsh light over the cracks that have recently been spreading in the foundation of their partnership.

Now, both Henderson and Sandilands have hunkered down in their respective homes as they weather the media storm, with Sandilands said to have ‘called in lawyers’ to safeguard his contract against termination.

He is reportedly ‘preparing to sue’ ARN should his $100 million contract be terminated following the collapse of his KIIS FM show with Henderson, according to The Australian.

Sandilands is believed to be seeking a payout for the remainder of the combined $200million, 10-year historic contract they both signed in 2023, on which he has eight years and $88million remaining.

The shock jock was accused of ‘serious misconduct’ after his spectacular on-air clash with co-star Henderson over her interest in astrology, leading to Henderson suddenly quitting the show.

Sandilands is said to have been ‘caught completely off-guard’ by the misconduct allegation as he had been given free rein on the air, with two full-time censors employed by The Kyle & Jackie O Show to ensure he is safeguarded.

The radio star will argue that ARN has no justifiable cause to terminate his contract as the network had promised to be fully liable for his on-air comments, the publication reported.

A source has also claimed that Sandilands would agree to leave his top-rated breakfast program only if he was compensated with ‘the full $100million he is owed, less what he has already been paid’.
