Echo and the Bunnymen have left their fans fuming as they cancelled a gig just moments before they were due to perform in Manchester.

The British band are currently on their More Songs To Learn and Sing UK tour and were set to perform to a sold-out crowd at Albert Hall on Wednesday.

But as fans waited patiently outside, the group had to cancel their show and explained the reason was because of ‘ill health’ in a post shared to Facebook.

Their statement read: ‘Unfortunately, tonight’s Echo and the Bunnymen show has been postponed due to ill health amongst the band.

‘Fans are advised to keep hold of their tickets and await further information. We truly apologise for any inconvenience caused’.

But fans were left in a frenzy as they told the band that they should have notified them sooner.

One penned: ‘So sorry, we were only informed at the last minute too. We can only apologise.’

‘Met a lady outside who had travelled from Antwerp especially. We also travelled and paid for hotel accommodation.

‘Last minute cancellation is a huge disappointment’.

Comments on the post have since been removed and there is no access to comments on the band’s recent social media posts.

The band formed in 1978, with just original members Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant remaining.

Friday night will see Echo and The Bunnymen take to Bristol for another sold out show where they today confirmed that they will still perform.

Taking to Instagram, they penned: ‘Following the disappointment of having to cancel our recent Manchester show due to illness in the band, we wanted to say a sincere thank you to everyone for your understanding and support.

‘We are currently planning to perform in Bristol tomorrow night and are really looking forward to getting back on stage and playing for fans.

The Daily Mail has contacted the band’s representatives for a comment.
