Ed Sheeran wowed fans with an unannounced performance in Sydney on Thursday ahead of his shows this weekend at Accor Stadium.

The 35-year-old hitmaker took the stage alongside Irish group Beoga, as the band did an encore for their own headline show at the Paddington RSL.

Ed brought down the house as he sang lead on two songs, including the traditional folk tune Wild Mountain Thyme.

He also gave a dazzling rendition of his own song Shape of You, with the group, who are supporting the British-born superstar on the Aussie leg of his Loop tour.

Video of the impromptu performance was later shared on social media.

‘What a wonderful night of music in Sydney with @beogamusic,’ said one concertgoer.

‘Nice of them to let Ed Sheeran have a wee sing…’ they joked

The fan included a clip of Sheeran hugging members of the group as they took a bow at the end of the gig.

‘O wow how awesome is that,’ messaged one fan on the post.

‘This is EVERYTHING,’ gushed another.

Sheeran has a long association with Beoga, who collaborated with the chart topper on his 2016 album ÷ (divide).

Formed in County Kerry, Ireland in 2002, Beoga – which means ‘lively’ in Gaelic –  performed as the pop star’s backing band at the Glastonbury Festival in 2017.

The global superstar, who was last in Australia in 2023 for his Mathematics Tour, kicked off his tour Down Under in Perth on January 31.

He is set to play Accor Stadium in Sydney on February 13, 14, and 15.

He’s also added a third gig for his Melbourne shows.
