Finn was born in the state of Illinois in July 1965 and graduated from Marquette University in 91987 – where he became good friends with comedian Chris Farley. They played on the school rugby team and were roommates.

He became a member of The Second City’s National Touring Company along with his buddy Farley, and together they performed in their shows in Chicago.

The experience helped Finn to perfect his improv skills and it soon led to breakout roles in The George Wendt Show and Murphy Brown.

But Finn is perhaps best known for his role in the ABC sitcom The Middle.

The show starred Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn as middle-class, middle-aged and middle-income couple Frankie and Mike Heck and revolved around the daily chaos and humor of raising three kids.

Finn played their friend Bill Norwood from 2011 to 2018, a friendly, neighborly guy who liked to watch the Colts with Mike.

The late actor also made additional appearances on other shows including Seinfeld – where he portrayed the character of Joe Mayo in an episode titled The Reverse Peephole.

Finn was also no stranger when it came to the big screen – and took on a number of roles in film projects as well.

Finn’s family issued a statement to Deadline as they reflected on the late star’s career and love for sports.

‘He knew all the state Capitals and every College Football Mascot,’ his loved ones expressed.

‘The family is certain that Pat’s dear friends and fellow Chicago legends, Chris Farley, George Wendt and Mike Hagerty (aka Hags) are saving him a seat on the couch to watch their beloved Bears.’

His family also requested for ‘privacy’ and additionally asked for fans ‘to be kind, to try and make one person’s life a little easier every day and to Bear Down. It’s what Pat would want, too.’

Soon after the news of his death broke, his former The Middle co-star Patricia Heaton shared a loving tribute on Instagram.

‘One of the finest and funniest human beings I know has left to be with Jesus,’ began the Hollywood veteran.

She added, ‘Pat Finn, whom most of you know as Bill Norwood on The Middle had been battling cancer the last few years. At the too-young age of 60, he leaves behind his sweetheart Donna and three children.’
