A cringeworthy encounter between Jacob Elordi’s mother and Leonardo DiCaprio backstage at the Golden Globes has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
Earlier this week, the official Golden Globes TikTok page uploaded a short video of Jacob introducing his mother Melissa to a cluster of Hollywood heavyweights, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.
Unfortunately, things went awry when Melissa left Leonardo hanging shortly after they were introduced.
The footage begins with Jacob calmly working the room amid the awards night chaos.
‘Sean, this is my mum,’ Jacob said, as Melissa shook hands with Sean.
He then turned to Leonardo, adding: ‘Leo, this is my mum, Melissa.’

Leonardo obliged with a handshake before pointing to his own mother, Irmelin, standing nearby.
‘This is my mum,’ the Oscar winner said.
But the moment appeared to land with a thud, as Melissa’s attention had already drifted towards Benicio del Toro and Steven Spielberg.
Jacob immediately realised Melissa’s seemingly unintentional snub.
‘Your mum is here too,’ he replied to Leonardo, while nudging his mother’s attention back to the Titanic star.
He is last seen tapping Melissa on the shoulder as the camera cuts away, leaving viewers guessing whether the mums ever met.
The comments section exploded with fans weighing in on the encounter, with many sharing sympathy for Leonardo and his mother.
‘Omg that was so disrespectful! Poor Leo and his mum!’ one user wrote.

‘I felt that! Poor Leo,’ another added, as a third quipped: ‘I keep rewatching Leo getting ignored. Bless him.’
However, several users rushed to defend Melissa, insisting the moment was clearly unintentional.
‘Please don’t take things out of context,’ one user wrote.
‘She was simply greeting people, and with all the noise and the overwhelming environment, she didn’t notice or hear Leonardo’s mother’s introduction.
‘I don’t believe it was an act of discourtesy,’ they added.
