The 64-year-old star had made appearances in a number of shows over the years – such as playing an iconic character opposite the late Matthew Perry in the beloved sitcom Friends

It is Maggie Wheeler – who is known for playing Perry’s on-and-off girlfriend Janice on Friends from 1994 through 2004.

The actress kept it casual as she stepped out for a stroll in L.A. on Monday while also holding a phone conversation.

She sported a dark navy knit sweater as well as a pair of denim jeans and a denim jacket layered on top.

Wheeler slipped into a pair of brown boots and carried a light green bag over her right shoulder for the daytime excursion.

The actress accessorized the look with both blue and gold necklaces while also adding a pair of mini gold earrings.

Her locks flowed down naturally past her shoulders and she also held her smartphone in her hand.

Wheeler was born in New York and began her professional acting career in the 1982 movie Soup For One when she portrayed a nurse.

Following minor roles in other projects, she was cast alongside David Duchovny in the romantic comedy New Year’s Day – which was released in 1989.

Throughout the 90s, she made appearances in shows such as L.A. Law, Seinfeld, The X-Files, Everybody Loves Raymond and Ellen.

Beginning in 1994, Wheeler had the recurring role of Janice on Friends – where she played Perry’s on-and-off love interest.

The sitcom had also starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer.

Wheeler starred in 19 episodes as Janice – who was known for her catchphrase ‘Oh. My. God’, high-pitched voice and iconic laugh.

She reflected on the character during an appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast earlier this year in April.

The actress also recalled having to stay in her dressing room in order to hide herself from the live studio audience due to the popularity of her character.

‘I wasn’t allowed to wander around craft services, they made me stay in my dressing room.’

Wheeler further expressed, ‘It’s a little bit of a rock star feeling. To be able to make an entrance each time and have the audience gasp, and laugh, and howl… you’d get kind of a wave of a response.’

Elsewhere during the podcast interview, the star explained how the Friends cast was ‘super close.’

She also added, ‘It was unlike any other set I had ever been on. I loved being on that set. I loved working with those actors. I loved the writing, and I loved Janice.’

Perry passed away at the age of 54 at his home in Los Angeles in October 2023 after drowning in his jacuzzi following a ketamine overdose.

The doctor who had sold the drug to Perry before his death was sentenced to two and a half years in prison earlier this month – after pleading guilty to four counts of distribution of the drug.

At the time of the actor’s shock death, close friends and celebrities penned emotional tributes – including Wheeler.

Alongside a photo of herself on Friends with Perry, she wrote: ‘What a loss. The world will miss you Matthew Perry.

‘The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.’

Two years before his passing, Wheeler had joined Perry and other former co-stars during a Friends reunion special in 2021.

At the time, Wheeler explained that Perry had been an inspiration for Janice’s iconic laugh on the sitcom.

‘Matthew Perry is so funny, and the minute I set eyes on him and he opened his mouth I thought, “Oh God, I’m gonna lose it, I’m gonna crack up. This character needs a laugh because I’m not gonna be able to get through a single scene with this guy.”‘

She added, ‘And I just looked and him and I went [Janice’s laugh] and that was it. It was just born in the moment.

‘Thank you, Matthew, for inspiring that. And anyway everybody, oh my God, the Friends reunion, and I get to be a part of it!’
