A Sydney radio star has recounted a shocking incident in which her housemate was a victim of a homophobic attack.

Loren Barry, one half of 2DayFM’s The Hot Hits with Nic & Loren, took to Instagram over the weekend to vent her anger over the attack.

Sharing a photo of her housemate and his partner walking hand-in-hand, Loren said the pair filed a police report after some men hurled vile slurs at them.

‘To the brave young men who screamed f*** you, you f***ing f***ots twice from a moving vehicle to my friends while they simply walked down the street…’ she began her post.

‘F*** you too. We’ve filed a police report because this is 2025 and being homophobic is really embarrassing because we know deep down where that comes from.’

‘Even if they don’t catch you, we won’t be sitting back and letting this s*** pass anymore.

Loren Barry, one half of 2DayFM’s The Hot Hits with Nic & Loren has recounted a shocking incident in which her housemate was a victim of homophobic attack

Loren doubled down on her anger on air on Monday night, telling co-host Nic Kelly that she had never been so shaken after what was supposed to be a pleasant weekend breakfast outing in Sydney.

‘We went out for a really lovely breakfast with my housemate and his friend,’ she said, adding that the incident occurred while they were walking back from a café.

‘They are two of the loveliest men you will ever know in your life, walking down the street doing literally nothing wrong.’

Loren, who was distracted with wrangling her dog, said she thought a fight had broken out nearby, only to realise the invective was directed at her friends.

‘When we looked up, they turned the corner and screamed it again,’ she said.

‘And when I say screamed it, I mean with this vicious tone in their voice. It was so disgusting.’

Loren said that the shock of the incident caused her to ‘burst into tears’.

‘I have never in my life been so shaken by something that has happened in front of my eyes,’ she said.

Loren said that her anger was only exacerbated when one of the victims said to her: ‘Don’t cry, this happens all the time.’

‘It made me even more upset because this is 2025,’ she said.

‘I lived in a progressive part of the city in Melbourne and I live in a progressive part of the city where I am now in Sydney, and I surround myself with people who are progressive,’ she said.

‘It absolutely rocked me because in this day and age are we really still doing this?’

Loren added that she was buoyed by the fact that after filing a report, police took the incident ‘very seriously’ and ‘even paid those people a visit today.’

Co-host Nic Kelly said that he could related to the story as he too had been targeted in a similar fashion.

‘It completely rocks you,’ he said.

Loren rounded out the segment by assuring anyone who may have experienced similar attacks that they were ‘loved and supported’.

Nic and Loren shared a clip of the segment to Instagram, which drew a flurry of positive comments from listeners.

‘Talking about this on mainstream radio is massive. Props to you both,’ one follower commented.

A second jumped in with: ‘Amazing action that shouldn’t be needed, but proud there are people standing up for what is right,’ adding clapping hands emojis.

Summing up the sentiment of many, a third agreed that it was sad to see such behaviour in 2025.

‘Loren, you beautiful empath. It’s so beautiful to see you speaking out about this because unfortunately people still have this disgusting mindset towards the LGBTQ community,’ they wrote.

‘It’s 2025 and we don’t tolerate that BS whatsoever. What you did, to help support them to report it is what the community needs more of. Caring allies that help shift the world we live in.’
