The Australian broadcasting community is in mourning after a beloved radio veteran died late last month, following a heartbreaking cancer battle.

Gold Coast-based radio producer and sound designer Adam Poort died last week aged 41, after a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer.

The 1029 Hot Tomato staffer had been a veteran of the Australian broadcasting industry for over a decade.

His death was confirmed on social media by his former colleague, Xylon ‘Xy’ McEwan.

Xy shared a precious throwback photo of him enjoying a drink with Adam, and captioned it with some sad words.

‘A legend, a mentor and a friend. You were a true inspiration to whoever came in contact with you,’ he began.

Xy continued: ‘Your kind heart, your love for your friends, and the passion for the industry you worked in is what made you the amazing person you are.

‘I’m so thankful for everything you taught me as an audio producer, and the friendship we had. You’ll truly be missed by many. Thank you for everything. The world definitely got a whole lot smaller today. Rest In Peace.’

Poort began his broadcasting career in 2012 as a producer at Southern Cross Austereo.

In 2014, he moved to Hot Tomato, the adult contemporary FM station which is the home of veteran presenters Emily Jade O’Keefe and Paul ‘Galey’ Gale.

He was best known to Gold Coast audiences as the speaker of the Hot Tomato call sign, announcing which station people were listening to.

Many of Poort’s friends and former colleagues took to social media to pay tribute.

‘This week the Hot Tomato family lost a beautiful man. Adam Poort was a friend to everyone in our building,’ his former station Hot Tomato wrote.

‘He worked behind the scenes here in production, so you wouldn’t know his voice, but you would know his work.’

‘Sad day. Love to Adam’s family. A great man who’ll be missed every day,’ added Big Brother Australia star Trevor Butler.

‘Such a great human. Devastating. RIP Adam. Pleasure to work with. My deepest condolences,’ Queensland radio star Jess Hardy chimed in.

‘Life is fleeting. Had some great memories with him. He was one of the kindest people I know,’ another person wrote.

His long and celebrated career at the station saw him work as both a producer and sound designer until his passing.
