Suspended Commissioner General of Prisons, Thushara Upuldeniya, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the controversial release of an inmate under a Presidential pardon for Vesak, has been further remanded until 25 June.
The order was issued today by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Upuldeniya was taken into custody following allegations that he acted unlawfully in facilitating the release of an inmate who was not eligible under the conditions of the Vesak Presidential pardon. The incident raised serious concerns over irregularities in the application of Presidential pardons and prompted an investigation by the CID.
