Eminem’s music publishing company, Eight Mile Style, has filed a massive lawsuit against tech giant Meta, accusing it of copyright infringement for the unauthorised use of over 200 of the rapper’s songs across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Filed this week, the lawsuit alleges that Meta made 243 of Eminem’s songs available in its in-app ‘Music Libraries,’ allowing users to incorporate them into millions of videos and streams — all without permission. According to Eight Mile Style, this unauthorised use amounts to copyright violation on a massive scale, involving reproduction, storage, and commercial exploitation.

The lawsuit claims this has severely diminished the value of Eminem’s music rights and caused significant financial losses. The publisher is now seeking statutory damages of up to $150,000 per song, per platform — a figure that could exceed $109 million in total. The company has also requested a jury trial.

Meta, meanwhile, has responded by asserting that it holds licenses with thousands of rights holders and was engaged in good-faith negotiations with Eight Mile Style. However, the company says the publisher “chose litigation over continued discussions.”
